About > Charity
As Freemasons we know, that charity forms a principal virtue of our Order and one of our main objectives is to make significant donations to various Non-Masonic and Masonic charities. To achieve this, funds are raised by individual members who organise a variety of different activities such as golf days, bowls days, social functions - anything to raise a few pounds. The funds raised by the Lodge for charitable purposes are then use in two ways.
  • Some are forwarded on to to the Province of Hampshire & Isle of Wight to be administered by the Cabinet, a committee comprising members of provincial Grand Lodge appointed in terms of the District’s by-laws. The Committee ensures there is good governance regarding the allocation of charitable donations.
  • The Lodge also donates up to 50% of monies raised each year to non-Masonic giving.
The administration of the funds is by our Lodge General Purposes Committee on recommendation of the Charity Steward and is overseen by the Treasurer with annual reports for approval by the Lodge members. The lodge accounts are subject to annual audit by our accounts examiners and are presented annually to the lodge members.
